چکیده
Sustainable sugarcane production in areas prone to frequent and severe drought can be achieved by creating resilient varieties. In this study, a unique mutant line, M9.2, was generated from susceptible commercial cultivar, N19, through the exposure of callus cells ethyl methanesulfonate mutagen subsequent vitro osmotic selection on polyethylene glycol. The study aimed characterise M9.2 mutant, comparison with parental genotype, terms its physiological biochemical performance proteome profile when exposed moderate (14 days without water) (21 water deficit stress glasshouse pot trials. counterparts, plants were able sustain quantum efficiency photosystem II (Fv/Fm) throughout stress. Under mild stress, displayed elevated stomatal conductance, high concentrations proline, accumulated less H2O2 phenotypically limited wilting no visible signs leaf senescence. malondialdehyde more antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase catalase) than line. Differentially further linked energy metabolism, methylation homeostasis DNA repair. This characterises new beneficial drought-tolerant traits which have potential exploited future breeding programmes.

Characterisation of Sugarcane Juice Particles That Influence the Clarification Process
PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH processing whole sugarcane crop can be minimised by removing impurities during the clarification stage. As a first step, it is important to understand the colloidal chemistry of juice particles on a molecular level to assist development of strategies for effective clarification performance. This paper presents the composition and surface characteristics of colloidal par...
متن کاملIsolation and Characterisation of Endophytic Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria in Sugarcane.
Endophytic nitrogen fixing bacteria were isolated from the leaves, stems and roots of industrial variety (cv. U-Thong 3; UT3), wild and chewing sugarcane plants grown for 6 weeks in nitrogen (N)-free sand. Eighty nine isolates of endophytic bacteria were obtained on N-free agar. An acetylene reduction assay (ARA) detected nitrogenase activity in all 89 isolates. Three isolates from the chewing ...
متن کاملSNP genotyping allows an in-depth characterisation of the genome of sugarcane and other complex autopolyploids
Many plant species of great economic value (e.g., potato, wheat, cotton, and sugarcane) are polyploids. Despite the essential roles of autopolyploid plants in human activities, our genetic understanding of these species is still poor. Recent progress in instrumentation and biochemical manipulation has led to the accumulation of an incredible amount of genomic data. In this study, we demonstrate...
متن کاملMolecular Genetic Analysis of an Endotoxin Nonresponder Mutant Cell Line
Somatic cell mutagenesis is a powerful tool for characterizing receptor systems. We reported previously two complementation groups of mutant cell lines derived from CD14-transfected Chinese hamster ovary--K1 fibroblasts defective in responses to bacterial endotoxin. Both classes of mutants expressed a normal gene product for Toll-like receptor (TLR)4, and fully responded to stimulation by tumor...
متن کاملDevelopment and Phenotypic Screening of an Ethyl Methane Sulfonate Mutant Population in Soybean
Soybean is an important oil-producing crop in the Fabaceae family and there are increasing demands for soybean oil and other soybean products. Genetic improvement of soybean is needed to increase its production. In order to provide genetic diversity and resources for identifying important genes, a new ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) mutagenized soybean population was generated using the newly rel...
